SPECIAL EVENT: Rejection Poetry Workshop

Register for the Rejection Poetry Workshop

When I first started submitting my writing to publications, I was terrified. One of the bonuses of having ADHD was that I forgot, most of the time, where I’d submitted to and who I was awaiting responses from… But when the rejections came they hit hard.

I started turning my rejections into poetry because it was a way of taking control and making my work feel like it was mine again. Of keeping the process light and fun. Of reclaiming that rejection, and of not letting the publications that didn’t want my perfect, angel baby stories in their publications have the last word.

In this workshop, you’ll be invited to use your own rejection letters as fodder for creating 3 different poems. (Black out poem, cut up poem and a Golden Shovel.)

There will be time for conversation about your relationship to rejection over the last year and for sharing your new creations.

Don’t have rejection letters, but still want to come to the workshop? You’re welcome to join us. Bring anything you think could you use your creative touch. (Think politicians speeches, letters from ex’s, magazine articles you find offensive, passive aggressive emails…) I’ll also share a list of suggested fodder alongside the supplies list.

As always, this is a come-as-you-are event. Unwashed hair, kids screaming, while you’re eating dinner. We don’t care. We just want you there. Closed captioning will be on, and a recording will be provided for all who register.

Please note that as this is an online workshop, participants will need to arrive with their own supplies. The supplies list is below, and will be sent by email.

This event is offered on a sliding scale at $25/$40/$55. A recording will be provided for all who register. Refunds are not available.
